Job Introduction

BBC Turkish is a multi-platform department, providing news, sport and information to Turkish speaking audiences in Turkey and around the world on digital and social media, 24 hours a day and seven days a week. It requires a number of Journalists to work across the range of its digital output, on desktop and mobile. Working under the supervision of Senior Journalists, Journalists produce accurate, informed and interesting content to the highest possible standards. The role demands creativity and flexibility, as well as a genuine passion for news, current affairs and emerging technologies.

 BBC Turkish is part of BBC Global News, one of the world’s leading multi-media news organisations providing international news and analysis to a global audience. Journalists will increasingly be expected to work closely with the rest of the BBC, building relationships that will be mutually beneficial and which will enable BBC Turkish to take an active role in the overall BBC coverage of Turkey.

Role Responsibility

You will research, produce, translate, edit or adapt high quality and compelling content including live text, images and interactive features for publication and sharing via social media, on established and emerging platforms. Alongside this, you will use social media effectively to spot the news as it breaks, to identify viral content and to develop and manage onsite communities and offsite social presences, with the aim of maximising reach and awareness.

 Expanded Role

 After appropriate training, you will have the opportunity to use a range of video, audio & digital equipment and social media tools to deliver content in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards. You will find contributors and interviewees as well as other sources of material whilst maintaining professional journalistic standards

 You will also be familiar with different technical systems, including news production systems, and to show a willingness to learn to operate new technology systems and to be able to adapt to different working methods.

 This role will involve you will liaising closely with other team members and contributors, reporters and stringers and when commissioning material to give effective guidance and feedback. You will also build strong relationships with other parts of the BBC, in particular Global News.

 The Ideal Candidate

With fluency in written and spoken Turkish a good level of English you’ll have the ability to work effectively in both languages. You’ll have significant and recent experience as a journalist in a digital and social news environment. The ability to write, adapt and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media is required. As well as this, you will have strong team working and highly developed communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with a range of people.

 You will have a comprehensive knowledge of political, social and cultural developments in the target area (Turkey) as well as regional and international news. A clear understanding of the needs and the profile of the target audience, as well as strong web and computer literacy is also required. Experience of managing and developing communities online and using social media for newsgathering is highly desirable.

Package Description

Salary for this role is between £31000- £34000- This is a 12 month FTC
